Fashion Cove

One thing that always surprises people when they ask where my clothes are from, is the fact they don't cost a fortune. So, I have decided to put together a few of the key pieces I have for this Summer (2020…hopefully they’ll see a beer garden). My style is a mix of retro/ hippy patterns and classic tailoring, a mix of new and old pieces. Some key trends I follow, some I don't, because It’s important to me that I have my own style that describes me and not just following trends for the sake of it! So you’ll probably see quite a lot of floral patterns….

My Own Creation

During lock down I have gone back to my design routes and started to design and construct my clothes. This is the first dress i have designed and made for my own personal use, and though it may not be everyone cup of tea, I love it! I have chosen a loud patterned fabric with block colours that compliment each other, bringing out all the different colours hearts. It is a simple shape using elastic that could fit a number of different sizes. The sleeves are an add on as i didn't like my arms being out and only having thin straps, so I made gathered arms that are also elasticated that make me feel more comfortable. This is something i am incredibility proud of (especially as my first handmade garment with no pattern) and wear it regularly. This is something I am going to keep on doing and making my own designs that suit my style and are personal to me.

Blush Pink

I am obsessed with h&m's current ranges and collection. These 2 dresses use the same pattern in 2 very different styles and it works beautiful. Im not a big ran of showing my arms at the moment, so the loose blazer over the sleeveless maxi dress with the sleeves rouched up is perfect. The dress is really fluid and a great length for someone on the shorter side. Its very flattering with the option to have it loose or tied round the next. The 3/4 sleeve smock dress is also featured lower down on my page, but also works so elegantly with the blazer, especially on a summers evening. Complete with a slouchy clutch bag that brings out the deeper colours of both dresses, it helps dress the outfit up for a special occasion.

Purples and Yellows

I'm a little obsessed with purples and yellows at the moment, especially some of the items Zara have had in so far on 'Special Price'. I have these purple trousers in a variety of different colours and patterns because they are so comfortable and go with so many different things through out the year. This colour is beautiful for Spring/ Summer time, particularly if you want to pair them with a crapped top. I love anything floral and there is a great range of ditsy floral's in stores at the moment. As for shoes, the slingbacks are great if you you don't want to wear sandals but still want to look summery. All of the looks have a slightly retro feel which i love because i have always been a huge fan of retro and vintage patterns.

Retro Floral

When i ordered these dresses, I was supposed to decide which style i liked more and send one back (there was no chance of that happening!). I am mesmerised to say the least by the retro floral pattern of these maxi dresses. The first one is a scoop neckline with tie detailing and puff ball short sleeves and tiered skirt. It screams of the 1970's and hippy vibes! This is my every day dress that's more casual that I can wear out and about with my chunky Dr Martens or pink square toe flats. The second one is a deep V neck with cut out detail and is just perfect for a more dressed up Summer's day. The shape is so flattering with the frills following the waist and the neckline. I always find it hard with these styles to get them to fit properly, and I have had to adjust the shoulders for it to sit across my chest right - but definitely worth it! Pairing it with chunky wooden clog heels and a chunky headband.

Hippy Vibes

I had my eye on the dress in Zara for a while...so when it went on Special Price, i ordered it in a heartbeat. It's probably one of the comfiest dresses i own, and even though its long sleeved, it breathes really well and is actually pretty cooling. It's the ultimate hippy look and can be worn with anything from my slingbacks, Dr Martens, sandals and my wooden cloggs. One of the hings i love about this dress is that it fits my personality and style, more so than it following current trends. For me, its definitely a key investment piece and i know i will wear it for seasons to come.

Ditsy Floral

This knitted crop top has probably been one of Zara's  best sellers in their Spring Summer collection this year, and I had to wait for it to appear on Depop in my size! Instead of partnering it with the matching cardigan, I went for a white popplin shirt with a frill neckline and puffed sleeves. It's a key item for your wardrobe, no matter what season as you can layer it over both a normal shirt and a shirt dress. I styled it with balloon shaped jeans to give it more of a vintage feel as opposed to normal skinny jeans.

My white quilted mules have been a key buy this year, and they help bring our the freshness of the blouse.

On the left, the full matching set with a pair of balloon jeans and yellow sling backs. the choral chain belt helps break up the blue's and brings out the colours of the flowers. Add some colours hair clips or a silky scrunchy for some real 90's vibes!

Applique Summer

Applique has been a pattern that has been in fashion for a number of years now, and continues to come back every Sprint/ Summer. This is a mini dress I purchased from Zara around 3/4 years ago and it gets recycled every year! It's beautifully layered and perfect if you want something a little shorter but not revealing or tight. It's incredibly easy to dress up or down. My go for a casual Summer day to beer garden drinks, is to partner it with my black and whites silk bow espadrilles along with my black and white what with a hint of straw detail on top. With the hat still having the straw top, you can use any natural coloured bag!

Vintage Florals

Some may say that pattern is a replica of an old pair of curtains, but it works so well! The floral pattern screams vintage with its pale shades of yellow pink and grey. The ruched neckline is really slimming as it sits off the shoulder and emphasises the 3/4 length balloon sleeves. It is tiered midway down giving it a slight flare towards the bottom and just makes it look a lot more elegant with it being oversized. This is definitely ones of my go to's because of how comfy it is as well as it being sophisticated and easy to dress up or down. I love wearing this with my pale pink ruched bag and yellow slingbacks to bring out all the colours. On a hot day, low ponytail and some small hoop earrings, its definitely a head turner.

Daisy Chain's

I have always been obsessed with floral patterns in someway or anther, and this didnt stop last Summer. Daisy print was everywhere, and I everywhere I went i was in Daisy print. The dress on the left is a dress I cam across by  chance in Debenhams by Designer Richard Quinn. It has 3D daisies sewn on skirt, both front and back and makes the skirt look a lot fuller. The bodice is structured with boning to help maintain its shape. The materiel is so light and elegant for Summer and is excellent quality for the price i paid (around £60?).

A more casual Daisy dress is the long sleeved maxi dress from Zara. With a tiered skirt and ruffle detailing, I constantly wear it with my white Birkenstocks.

The All Rounder

This has been one of my favourite finds! This dress has got me through Spring, Summer and no doubt Autumn and Winter as well! With it being tiered across the chest and the skirt, it hangs a lot more elegantly that other tiered dresses i have tried on. The high neck is also a little different that other dresses i have seen in this style and gives it more of a vintage feel. I can wear this with so many different things, from my Doc's and Biker jacket in Autumn to my Birkenstock's and Fedora hat in Summer.
